Macaroni and Cheese from The Pioneer Woman Cooks

by Birdie on September 2, 2010

It turns out that my first attempt at a recipe from The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl was a great success! I have never ever ever made macaroni and cheese from scratch before and both my husband and I were raised with the boxed kind. He was extremely skeptical but agreed to the experiment with a promise of a burger from his favorite diner if it failed. I was a little more hopeful, but worried about my ability to carry it off. I know, I know…get on with it already!

The Cast

Ingredients for The Pioneer Woman’s Macaroni and Cheese

I didn’t take pictures of cooking the macaroni, you’ll just have to trust me. Moving on to the star of the show, the sauce!

Let the show begin!

This next one I think is really pretty. Look at that little sploosh!

Time for Dinner!

It was delicious! I made meatloaf using my own ‘recipe’ which consists of me adding stuff that I think will taste good. This time that included some garlic salt, steak seasoning, Lowery’s, oatmeal, basil and oregano tomato sauce, and an egg. Canned green beans, I know.. I fail. Going to go for fresh or frozen next time. All in all I was quite happy with the results although I would make it a bit salty for me, hubby likes his food less salty so it was perfect for him and I can always add the salt at the table.

If you want to be truly inspired you can go check out the original guide to The Pioneer Woman’s Macaroni and Cheese and get the recipe as well. OR you can buy the book, which is fabulous times ten and enjoy all the stories that are in it and play along at home as I cook the recipes each week!

So…how did I do? I know I need to work on the photography but it was a pretty good first effort, right????
